I am not sure what difference you are making between your mind and your head? A little puzzling? Do you mean the songs that just come to you out of the blue (a nice slang phrase, means out of nowhere) as opposed to those you are trying to learn?
Some melodies last for a long time, but others don't even though they are easy to remember.
I meant these two kinds, but when I thought about this deeply, I got very confused (and I'm still not clear about this topic), so I guess that the post was a very confusing one.
