There are people who live across my apartment room.
I don't know their names even though they live inside the door which is located within two meters from mine.
But I'm sure that there is a drama that is completely different from mine just going on everyday.

I am sure you are right. It is interesting that in cities so often one doesn't know much about one's near neighbors. It is as if one is trying to give the other enough room, or something.
Small towns are much different.
Victoria is a small city, but may be it is big enough to have some distance towards neighbors...
or may be it's just the common attitude for the apartment neighbors.
