The day before yesterday, I learned that there is no "the" before a word '-ism.'
It's because '-ism' is usually a general idea.
I need to learn English more...

I'm a Japanese student trying to improve my writing skills in English. So if you have time, please correct my English. It'll greatly help my writing. Oh, you can write your comments without correcting my English, but please don't use the space for advertising...

Your English seems quite good to me, Saku. This "ism" thing is something I had not realized, but you are correct. We would say things like "I believe in feminism", or "I think racism is wrong", or something like that, and not say "I believe in the feminism" (but, just to confuse you, we would say "I believe in the feminist (or other "ist") way of life".
Hmmm. Odd language, English!
OK, so I need to put "the" before "ist."
It's a new example.
(I learned the general rules for articles, but I need the actual examples.)
Thank you very much!
