The basis of human relationships is the distance between you and the other people, the distance of both physical and mental.
The best distance with a particular person is which you feel comfortable. Either too long or too short will cause a problem, so it's better to keep the best distance. However, the most difficult part of this story lies in this fact; the best distance is always changing. It's not constant. So it's sometimes hard to find the new distance with the person, even if you know the old one. If the best distance was always the same, then there were no problem at all in this relationship. And as you already know, this rarely happens -- In fact, this never happens, if you take a long sight.
The reason why the best distance is always changing is that we are all progressing. But this progress is itself due to the effort to get the best distance to the people around us. So this problem will never be finished.
But the most delightful part of this never-ending program is this; as we progress more and more, we can create great relationships with many many people. We are existing because of this delightful purpose.
