This one strikes me as rather profound, Saku. Do you mean a replacement for something lost? For a goal not gained, or a departed friend?
My mother used to say things like this; her philosophy was always that everything that happens is for the best, though we may not know it at the time.
I meant replacement for something lost, but as usual, it can be refer to anything, I think.
I feel your mother's saying is true too.
I gave up going to a university in Japan, but now I go to a university in Canada.
I think this just happened for the best.
